We have reconfigured The Gum Store building and home into a home for arts, creativity, and healing. We are a collaboration of friends with a passion for creativity and it's healing power. In fun we trust.
We are housed in the former "Gum General Store" which was a neighborhood fixture from 1913-1980 selling everything from bologna by the slice to back to school sneakers. We are housed in the former "Gum General Store" which was a neighborhood fixture from 1913-1980 selling everything from bologna by the slice to back to school sneakers. The fresh eggs came daily from the chickens housed underneath the building, and the Gum family lived in the other half of the building. When we bought the building, there was a family of 9 raccoons who had taken up residence. We relocated them so we would have room for our artists.
We had guest artists Caitlin Ross and Elle Love join our resident artist Marcus Fioravante for a month to create the mural that spans the creek side of the building. They worked with the 3rd and 4th graders at White Sulphur Springs Elementary School to create our very diverse "creektures" swimming in a parade along the creek.

These magical beasts were created with an "Exquisite corpse" exercise (from the original French term "cadavre exquis"). This is a method by which each collaborator adds to a composition in sequence, either by following a rule or by being allowed to see only the end of what the previous person contributed.
Just like us, our creektures are quite a diverse group of friends. We are thrilled to share them with you!
The mural is best viewed from the Gum Street Bridge. From Main Street, turn onto Mountain Avenue and then right at Gum Street. Prepare to smile.
